Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a uninhabited area of Montreal Island known as West Island. The West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar with its meaning. Many people believe that it's an island located to the west of Montreal, but the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities of Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel grew up on this island, and it is commonly called her birthplace. However, she only stayed there for a short duration. Brugel lived in Courtice near Oshawa the city of Ontario. When she was a child, she wanted to be professional performer, however an unexpected growth spurt made it impossible. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." After I became too big for my male companions, I quit. There are many dancers who make the move into acting. For Bruce, it was her drama teacher who encouraged her to go in this direction. She was encouraged to try out for roles in her school's production. After trying out, she ended up as the lead actress of Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years since, Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions across small and big screens drawing the most media attention after she was offered the role as Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the character Rita in the Handmaid's Tale which was filmed over ten years ago.
